Henry Zielinski, a nine-year-old student from Clarion School, recently took part in a field trip to Al Shindagha’s Merkaz Turath, which inspired him to learn about the UAE’s rich maritime heritage, and had a lasting impact on his imagination and curiosity.
“I wanted to show how people used to live and work here”, said Henry, he embarked to create a detailed model of the Hajar Mountains and a limestone mine, drawing a direct connection between his life and the historical practices he had discovered.
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (The Department of Cultural and Heritage Programmes) recognised Henry’s effort, and he was awarded a Certificate For Participation in the marine industries workshops at the Heritage Centre for Traditional Handicrafts. The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority’s role in fostering educational experiences like this has reinforced its commitment to supporting student learning and nurturing young minds.
As Henry continues his exploration of the UAE’s past, he hopes to inspire his friends to learn more about their country.
