EcoWASTE 2023 Exhibition and Forum kicks off in Abu Dhabi, attracting more than 40 local, regional, and global companies

The 9th edition of EcoWASTE 2023 Exhibition and Forum, which is held under the theme “Explore the future of waste management in a circular economy” kicked off on Monday.
The event, which is held as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, is organised in strategic partnership with the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) and will run until 18 January at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
In line with its commitment to enhance the participation of women and highlight their pivotal role in the waste management sector, Tadweer organised a panel during the first day of the event to discuss the role of Emirati women in carrying out sustainability projects.
The panel saw the participation of speakers from Zayed University and the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. The panel aimed to reaffirm women’s position in the waste management sector, and shed light on the challenges they face and ways to enhance scientific research in universities to encourage women to become more involved in the field.
“We are pleased to participate as an organiser and strategic partner in this event, which is an ideal platform that brings together some of the top business leaders, experts, and specialists in the field of waste management from around the world to share their knowledge and expertise. The event provides an opportunity for attendees to discover the latest technologies and innovative solutions for achieving sustainable waste management. It also sheds light on the leading role of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the waste management sector,” Eng. Ali Al Dhaheri, Chief Executive Officer of Tadweer, said Monday.
“During the past year, Tadweer realised several achievements and successes that reflect its commitment to supporting the sustainable development of the UAE by providing the best services and implementing initiatives to maintain the Emirate’s cleanliness and aesthetic appearance. In addition, we carried out several projects that aim to consolidate the UAE’s global position as a leader in the energy and facilities sector,” he added.
As part of its participation in the Exhibition, Tadweer provided a platform for selling recycled products, which include gravel, fertilisers, and rubber products.

Tadweer’s Achievements in 2022
In 2022, Tadweer commenced the commercial operation of three medical and hazardous waste treatment plants, in addition to the commercial operation of a fallen stock treatment plant in Al Dhafra region, according to the highest international and local standards to ensure safe and proper disposal of all kinds of waste.
Tadweer also treated around 14,415 tons of medical and hazardous waste, and 9,334 tons of fallen stock. The overall volume of recycled waste in 2022 amounted to more than 37,000 tons. The company collected about 3.5 million tons of construction and demolition waste, and provided 19 centres for collecting recyclable materials.
The company has also licensed 3,608 waste transport vehicles, and addressed 8,879 cases of random dumping of sewage waste, in addition to 10,558 unauthorised entries to Tadweer’s waste disposal facilities.

Successful Turnout for Tadweer’s Pavilion at the Exhibition
During the first day, two delegations led by H.E. Ville Skinnari, Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade of Finland, and H.E. Dr. Muawieh Khalid Radaideh, Jordanian Minister of Environment, visited Tadweer’s pavilion at EcoWASTE 2023 Exhibition and Forum, where they explored Tadweer’s latest achievements and innovative projects in the waste management sector.
EcoWASTE 2023 Exhibition and Forum, which is held in Abu Dhabi with the participation of more than 40 local, regional, and global companies, is a leading platform that seeks to strengthen partnerships between local and international companies to meet the challenges of the waste management sector. The event provides an opportunity to connect with experts and specialists in the field to learn more the latest developments related to modern technologies and innovative projects.
