by Mohammad Ghazal

The Embassy of Italy in Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Il Sole 24 Ore, Italy’s leading business newspaper, organises a seminar on “Italy and the UAE towards COP2 – private sector engagement for energy transition”.
The seminar is the first operational outcome of the Memorandum on enhanced cooperation between Italy and the UAE in view of COP28, signed in Abu Dhabi by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President-designate of COP28.
COP28 will take place in Dubai next autumn and is set to be a crucial milestone to take stock of the progress on the global energy transition and on meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement.
The UAE has pledged to make COP28 a COP of Action and a COP for All, delivering concrete results and involving private stakeholders and civil society.
Italian companies are already at the forefront of the energy transition. In the UAE, Italian technology has a major role in the decarbonisation of the energy sector and Italian companies are world leaders in technological solutions for clean energy.
The event will bring together business leaders and executives from Italian and UAE companies of the energy sector. Among the speakers, the CEO of BEEAH H.E. Khaled Al Huraimel, the Senior Vice President of ADNOC for New Energies and CCUS, H.E. Hanan Balalaa, the CEO of Ansaldo Green Tech Daniela Gentile, and high level executives from ENI, ENEL, MAIRE, SAIPEM, ACWA Power, Confindustria, Intesa San Paolo, Med-Or Foundation, and the Global Solar Council.
Ambassador of Italy Lorenzo Fanara said: “Italy and the UAE have decided to give a new impetus to the bilateral relations. Cooperation on climate and sustainable energies is a priority pillar of our new strategic partnership. In view of COP28, Italian companies are gearing up to provide innovative and sustainable technological solutions to maximise energy and minimize emissions. This ambitious goal stated by H.E. Dr. Sultan is shared by Italian companies. This seminar will provide a platform for Italian and Emirati energy sector leaders to share experience and identify solutions to address the energy transition and make COP28 a success”.
