by Madaline Dunn

Gulf Bank has announced the launch of the “A Step Towards Change” sustainability initiative, aimed at shifting societal habits by promoting reusable bag adoption in partnership with Mishref cooperative society.

The initiative involves distributing around 20,000 reusable bags at Mishref co-op over the course of a week, accompanied by various events aimed at disseminating information.

Fahad Al-Sharah, Assistant Manager of Corporate Communications at Gulf Bank, commented: “We are pleased at Gulf Bank to have partnered with Mishref Co-op for the third phase of our environmental sustainability initiative, ‘A Step Towards Change,’ following the participation of Al-Dahiya and Al-Mansouriah co-op, and Al-Shamiya and Al-Shuwaikh Co-op.”

Adding: “Our primary objective is to instigate a change in behavior within society, and we are working closely with Mishref Co-op to achieve this. Through the distribution of reusable bags and encouraging customers to reduce their plastic consumption, we hope to make significant progress.”

Al-Sharah said that the initiative is rooted in Gulf Bank’s 2025 strategy, and aligns with the country’s environmental strategy under the vision of ‘New Kuwait 2035,’ as well as various pieces of legislation related to the environment.

Abdullah Adel Al-Qallaf, Board Member of Mishref Co-op, meanwhile highlighted the introduction of a “Fast Track” service by the Co-op for shareholders who utilise reusable bags, aiming to promote their ongoing use.
