Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) Chairperson Habiba Al Mar’ashi, has been appointed the Vice Chair of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).
The non-profit organisation is a global network of national Green Building Councils (GBCs) focused on the decarbonisation and sustainability of the built environment. There are now over 70 Green Building Councils across the world.
It was shared that in this new role, Al Mar’ashi, alongside other Board of Directors, will work towards connecting global ambition with local action.
Al Mar’ashi commented: “I’m extremely honoured to take on a new role as the Vice Chair of the World Green Building Council (WGBC).
“As the first Arab to be elected to this prestigious position I will strive to engage with global stakeholders to champion actionable change in the built environment.”
Al Mar’ashi is the Co-founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a UAE non-government organisation focused on environmental protection, and co-founded the Emirates Green Building Council in 2006. Today she serves as its Vice Chair and Treasurer.
Al Mar’ashi has also served as a board member of the UN Global Compact, President of the UNGC – GCC Network, a civil society representative at UNEP, a member of the Global Reporting Initiative Stakeholder Council (GRI), and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Certification Advisory Board for the Middle East.
She is currently Vice Chair of Global Urban Development, a Patronage Committee Member of myclimate and in her second term as a member of the high-level Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance.
