EtihadWE and HCT Partner for EV Charging Stations on Campuses

by Madaline Dunn

Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) has announced the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) to install and operate a series of EV charging stations across its campuses. The installed stations will feature fast chargers capable of delivering quick top-ups, supported by UAEV’s digital backend.

This, it was shared, is in alignment with the recently announced UAEV, a joint venture (JV) between EtihadWE and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, with the mission to provide at least 100 fast chargers across the nation by the end of 2024. The JV comes as EV demand in the country grows, with penetration up from 3.7 per cent in 2022 to 11.3 per cent in 2023. There are currently more than 40,000 EVs in the UAE.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Hassan Al Ali, Vice President – Customer Service at Etihad Water and Electricity, and Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Vice President – Shared Services at the Higher Colleges of Technology.

According to Ahmed Hassan Al Ali, this agreement for the installation of EV charging stations is among a series of similar agreements the company has signed recently and the second of its kind with higher education institutions in the UAE.
