Goumbook Launches New Campaign at Sports Impact Summit 2024

by Rachel

In a continued effort to promote sustainability and climate action in the MENA region, Goumbook launched their Mangroves United campaign at the inaugural Sports Impact Summit 2024 at the Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai.

The campaign unites the sports community to champion climate action through the restoration of mangrove ecosystems. The spots industry is being encouraged to decarbonise and support nature-based solutions, drive sustainable practices and contribute to climate crisis mitigation.

As climate change threatens both natural landscapes and the facilities where sports thrive, impacting the health and well-being of athletes; the community is encouraged to rally for the future of sports.

“We call on the sports community: individuals and athletes of all levels, sports teams, brands, associations and fans, to harness the power of sports to take climate action, and restore mangrove ecosystems around the world”, said Tatiana Antonelli Abella, Founder of Goumbook.

Mangroves are labelled ‘Guardians of the Coast’, and they serve as a resilient and powerful nature-based solution to climate change. They sequester carbon, provide natural protection against storm surges, and support the rich biodiversity that sustains costal communities and ecosystems.

“We are delighted to come together to team up with nature”, said Sean Morris, Co-Founder of Sports for Impact Summit. “With Goumbook, we have seen first-hand how mangrove planting can boost biodiversity whilst also helping combat climate change. We all have an important role to play in protecting our natural environment – big impact starts with small but significant changes.”

Planting mangroves actively supports national, regional and global restoration efforts, while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals, United Nations Trillion Tree Campaign, the UAE National Carbon Sequestration Project, and the Global Mangrove Alliance.
