DAMAC Properties, the largest private developer in the UAE and the Middle East, unveiled the third edition of its Sustainability Report at WETEX 2026 (October 20-22; Dubai World Trade Centre). Prepared in accordance with the internationally recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, the report places DAMAC’s disclosure approach in line with a framework used by companies representing 62 per cent of global market capitalisation and 40 per cent of large listed companies worldwide.

Amira Sajwani, Managing Director, DAMAC Properties, said: “Sustainability is increasingly shaping how we plan, design, build and manage our communities. By expanding our carbon measurement, strengthening supply-chain accountability and embedding ESG considerations across the development lifecycle, we are building a stronger foundation for responsible growth. Importantly, these efforts translate into practical priorities for our residents and communities, from more efficient building operations and greener surroundings to stronger safety and quality standards across project delivery.”

Notable achievements in water conservation include on-site treated sewage effluent capacity nearly doubling to 61.05 million Imperial Gallons. Treated operational wastewater was reused for concrete curing, dust suppression and site irrigation. Handed-over residential towers recorded a 43.7 per cent reduction in water consumption against the 2023 baseline, despite higher resident occupancy. DAMAC Hills and DAMAC Hills 2 use closed-loop infrastructure to treat and recycle sewage water for landscaping, reducing reliance on fresh municipal water, while DAMAC Mall reduced absolute water consumption by 11.5 per cent year-on-year following an operational audit and the deployment of smart irrigation and automated leak detection.

Across 49 residential towers, technical retrofits, smart lighting and HVAC optimisation delivered a reported 23 per cent net reduction in grid electricity demand against the 2023 baseline, as occupancy and handovers increased. Rooftop photovoltaic solar generation across the retail portfolio increased to 1,028 MWh in 2025, from 728 MWh in 2024. Integrated solar water heating in DAMAC’s master communities offset 212 MWh of grid thermal demand annually.

DAMAC’s corporate fleet fuel consumption fell by a cumulative 55.2 per cent between 2023 and 2025 through route optimisation and improved fleet management, while Earth Hour 2025 initiatives recorded a collective electricity saving of 13.12 MWh during the one-hour event at DAMAC buildings and communities.

All new DAMAC developments are designed to comply with Dubai Municipality’s Al Sa’fat Green Building System at a minimum Silver baseline, including Canal Crown, Harbour Lights and Coral Reef. Design measures include passive envelope design, thermal insulation and district cooling.

DAMAC also plans to plant 30,000 flame trees across its communities by 2030. The programme is intended to expand urban greenery, support biodiversity and create more climate-responsive neighbourhoods for residents’ enjoyment.

Mohammed Tahaineh, Chief Project Officer, DAMAC Properties, added: “The scale of our development portfolio requires consistent oversight across construction safety, resource efficiency and contractor performance. The 116.9 million contractor working hours recorded during the year demonstrate the scale at which these systems are being applied. Expanded carbon measurement and digital ESG assessments will give us greater visibility across the value chain, helping us identify risks earlier, work more closely with our partners and strengthen the standards that ultimately shape the safety, quality and resilience of our communities.”

By bringing carbon measurement, construction safety, energy performance, responsible procurement and urban greening into a more integrated framework, DAMAC is connecting its ESG priorities with tangible outcomes for its workforce, residents and communities.
