Kawar Energy, Huawei Partner on EV Supercharger Installation

Huawei and Kawar Energy have formed a strategic collaboration to install Huawei’s superchargers at Manaseer gas stations across Jordan.

Spanning two years, the MoU also outlines future plans for both companies to explore additional business opportunities beyond gas stations.

Eng. Firas Alkhatib, CEO of Kawar Energy, called the partnership a “significant step forward for the energy sector in Jordan.”

“We are confident that this partnership will play a pivotal role in advancing the country’s EV infrastructure,” added Alkhatib.

Indeed, this comes in response to an uptick in demand, with EV sales on the rise in recent years, and the country coming out on top for the highest share of EV sales in the Middle East in 2023.

Zhang Shizhe, General Manager of Huawei Jordan, said that the superchargers partnership will help accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across the Kingdom.

“Huawei’s commitment to cutting-edge ICT technology, combined with their innovative solutions in smart renewable energy and digitalization, ensures we are equipped to meet the evolving energy needs of Jordan efficiently and sustainably,” said Alkhatib.

TAQA Volt and Wadi Degla Developments partner for installation of 14 EV charging stations

TAQA Volt, a subsidiary of TAQA Power, the electricity operating arm of TAQA Arabia group, and Wadi Degla Developments, have announced a partnership to install over 14 EV charging stations across Wadi Degla’s real estate projects.

The initiative is a direct response to market research, which found that 40 per cent of potential EV buyers are deterred by the limited availability of charging stations, it was shared.

“With 40 % of customers hesitant to transition to EVs due to the limited number of current charging stations, this initiative perfectly aligns with our mission to expand the EV charging infrastructure in response to the escalating demand, thereby supporting Egypt’s 2030 sustainability vision,” commented Eng. Samy Abdel Kader, Managing Director of TAQA Power.

Adding: “Our collaboration with Wadi Degla Developments will entail the installation of charging stations designed to be compatible with all EVs, prioritizing durability, reliability, and user-friendliness to ensure customer satisfaction.”

The partnership highlighted results from a recent survey, which found that over 30 per cent of polled consumers plan to transition to EVs within the next five years, and 90 per cent are projected to be driving one within the next decade.

“This shift in consumer behavior towards greener mobility solutions highlights the imperative need for a robust EV charging infrastructure, a primary focus of our partnership with TAQA Arabia,” commented Raymond Ahdy, CEO of Wadi Degla Developments.

“Adding EV charging stations is a pivotal aspect of our sustainable development strategy, aligning with customer preferences for eco-friendly living solutions. This not only strengthens our commitment to sustainability but also positions our developments as contemporary and responsive to market trends,” he added.

BMW Group Middle East and EMAAR to install more than 50 EV charging points across key locations in UAE

BMW Group Middle East and EMAAR have announced a strategic partnership that will see them expand the EV charging points in the UAE.

The agreement was reached during COP28 UAE – where BMW Group participated as the VIP e-Mobility Provider.

BMW Group Middle East, it shared, will install the charging points across EMAAR’s prime locations, including residential and public areas.

In collaboration with BMW AGMC, the project aims to electrify over 25 EMAAR projects this year.

More than 50 charging points are scheduled to be installed during the first phase of the partnership.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr Hamid Haqparwar, Managing Director of BMW Group Middle East, said: “Our collaboration with EMAAR is yet another milestone as we aim to accelerate the transition towards sustainable mobility in the UAE. The collaboration represents our joint efforts to expand the charging infrastructure in locations where our cus-tomers reside and commute. We remain committed in playing a direct role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility in the UAE, and I am glad to see this shared dedication with EMAAR in achieving this vision.”

DEWA’s EV green chargers saw 59% surge in service usage last year

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has shared that its EV Green Charger initiative witnessed a 59 per cent increase in the usage of its “Green Charger” services for electric vehicles throughout 2023.

It noted that by 31 December, its initiative recorded 1,145,427 charging sessions conducted by registered electric vehicles, with a 59 per cent increase from 2022.

DEWA provided 23419.821MWh of electricity for charging EVs in Dubai from 2015 to the end of 2023 through this initiative, powering a cumulative electric vehicle distance of 117 million kilometres.

It was shared that Dubai has seen an increase in the use of EVs since 2015, reaching 25,929 vehicles by the end of December 2023.

The number of EV owners registered under the initiative has also increased from 14 in 2015 to more than 13,959 by the end of December 2023.

DEWA noted that it has deployed 382 EV Green Charging Stations across Dubai, with many chargers having dual charging outlets.

Four types of chargers have been installed:

Ultra-Fast Charger (150 kW DC with ChadeMO and combo CCS sockets);
Fast Charger (43 kW AC with Type 2 Socket, 50 kW DC ChadeMO and Combo CCS Sockets;
Public Charger (2 x 22 kW AC, with double Type 2 Socket); and
Wall-Box (22 kW AC, with single Type 2 Socket).

Customers can also locate charging station locations through DEWA’s website, smart app, and 14 other digital platforms.

DEWA allows customers to create an EV account through its website, smart app, or the Interactive Voice System (IVR) at the DEWA Customer Care Centre.

Customers can utilise the charging stations within an hour of vehicle registration.

DEWA also launched the EV Green Charger User Dashboard to help customers better manage their EV Green Charger services.

All customers, including unregistered ones, can also use the guest mode feature to charge their EVs.

TAQA Volt and Al-Futtaim Real Estate partner to establish nine electrical vehicle charging stations

Al-Futtaim Real Estate (AFRE) has teamed up with TAQA Volt, a subsidiary of TAQA Power, the electricity operating arm of TAQA Arabia group, the energy and utility solutions provider, to develop Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.

Through the partnership, TAQA Volt is set to develop, manage, operate and maintain an initial phase of nine Electric Vehicle Charging Stations within “Cairo Festival City.”

This move, it was shared, lays the groundwork for a broader expansion plan, envisioning the proliferation of such charging stations throughout the city in the medium term.

Schneider Electric partners with Charge&Go by e& to boost EV infrastructure in UAE

Schneider Electric has signed an agreement with Charge&Go by e&, a global technology and investment group, with the aim of driving the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the UAE.

Speaking about the agreement, Muammar Al Rukhaimi, CEO, Etisalat Services Holding, e&, commented: “By uniting with Schneider Electric, we amplify our commitment to drive positive transformation in the UAE’s electric vehicle infrastructure. This collaboration is a testament to our joint efforts in delivering accessible and sustainable charging solutions that contribute to the evolving eMobility landscape.”

It was shared that the agreement will cover the deployment of EV charging solutions in the UAE, with Schneider Electric and e&’s joint efforts enabling the development of a scalable charging network.

The collaboration also includes installing EV charging solutions at Etisalat Academy by e&, the UAE’s largest provider of total Telecom and Business Training and courses.
